  • Arcade Fire – The Suburbs

Wow, pretty good, and a much better balance between music video/music than M.I.A’s Born Free.

You know? I prefer Arcade Fire music with music videos. I’ve never been able to just listen to an Arcade Fire album, I always have to be doing something else. Their music videos make me appreciate their music much more.

This video for The Suburbs is directed by Spike Jonze, and there will be a short film release… apparently. But we’re going to have to wait for December 20th for that one. Looks pretty promising. Beautiful sad.

  • Juri Ueno as Gou on NHK’s 2011 Taiga Drama

You know, I was watching the last episode of Ryomaden on Sunday’s afternoon before lunch. Sorry, Ryoma-san ~~~ I didn’t feel ya. But I did feel Teruyuki Kagawa’s Iwasaki — frienemy of Ryoma. Just like I enjoyed Kiyomori’s grey relationship with Yoshitsune.

There’s something about not so good characters in history that’s just wayyyyy more interesting than the heroes. Heroes are boring. That’s why Atsuhime was so good! She was actually sent to manipulate the Shogun in favor of her clan… then she married the Shogun, and not-really turned on her family, but she didn’t do what she was sent to do.

Looking forward to Gou… as well as Kenichi Matsuyama’s starring on the 2012 NHK Taiga drama about the life of Kiyomori. That’s all sorts of awesome considering he’s gonna battle it out with Hiroshi Tamaki playing Yoshitsune’s father, Minamoto.

Yup, I just showed you all my samurai / taiga drama knowledge right there.

    It’s like I know history! I feel knowledgeable ~~~

  • I Think K-RoK just Found their Exclusive ;P

K-RoK is scheduling an interview with Korean rockers Yellow Monster. Feels like something exciting~~~ Now I really REALLY need some “western-y” exclusive content like this. xD

Official welcome to Kamala-chan of K-RoK~~~ xD

  • RIP Leslie Nielsen

Don’t want to be disrespectful, but I think it’s fitting.

You know, I never ever met him without looking like that. Leslie Nielsen just froze in time for me with his white hair and that face.

  • Woooo, getting excited and impatient about the YAM Mag Website

    O_O

    xD

You know, it looks fine – but some stuff don’t work yet! LOL I mean, it works… but not as I was expecting. So I need someone to talk WordPress coding and plugins out-loud with — figuratively speaking — so I can have my House “ah-ha!” moment.

Also emailed all YAM readers to see if anyone is interested on becoming Affiliate with us, for the first 3 months it’s a FREE space (though, rotating randomly) on that humongous featured ad. Though, that Kick-Ass poster is puuuuurrrrrfect.

    Thoughts, comments? Suggestions?

  • Noomi Rapace – I by Max Vitali & Nils Ljunggren for Bon Magazine

    Oooooooooooh, stylish.

I think it’s time to add a Noomi Rapace tag, right?

  • My IMDb Ignore List is Getting Out of Control

    Seriously… it’s 3 times this long.

IMDb needs to figure out a way to handle their forum activity. Either by a voting up comments system, and / or a way to gather points a la Intense Debate.

  • The Kids Are All Right: Anti-male and/or Anti-Lesbian?

    *EDIT*

Gonna share this on the 2011 YAM Blogathon

Let’s see, I missed posting yesterday! Coding is such a mess~ Please, if you know anything about WordPress plugins, programing, and crazy coding talk – HELP ME!

Anyway, to clear my head from that problem, I was having a debate on whether or not The Kids Are All Right is anti-male or not. The participants? The Film Snob (snobbyfilmguy), Kevin Ketchum (KevinnK), Johnny Splash aka. filmcave, Benjamin Vargas aka. bensower, and MovieBungalow.

When the film first came out, a lot of the critics and bloggers were singing praise left and right. TKAAR is my flare, light drama with bits of comedy. Plus, it’s got Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo, of course I was going to watch it. However, with positive feedback, there’s also the few that can’t help but feel disappointed… or outraged.

While reading IMDb (battle zone!!), and some comments on AfterEllen.com, you could find lesbians saying the film is “anti-lesbian” because no way Julianne Moore’s character would sleep with a man, saying that it makes it seem like lesbians can’t live without c*ck – their words not mine.

That’s like saying Imagine Me & You is “anti-heterosexual” because no way Piper Perabo’s character would go for a woman. Hmmmmmkay.

Let’s start with the basics. The Kids Are All Right is the story of a lesbian couple that’s going through a rough patch. Nic (Bening) is a doctor that’s spending more time tending to her patients, than her wife Jules (Moore) who’s a stay-at-home mom, whose string of career switches fill her with insecurities.

After years of marriage (ten?), they’ve got two kids, almost-18-year-old Joni (Wasikowska) mothered by Nic, and 15-year-old (16?) Laser (Hutcherson) mothered by Jules. They seem you’re average white upper-middle class family with no kids problems, no money issues. Since Joni is about to turn 18, her brother asks her to contact their sperm-donor father — Enters Paul (Ruffalo), and all hell breaks loose.

    WARNING: LOTS OF SPOILERS~~~

  • Happy American Thanksgiving~

I always got confused about American and Canadian thanksgiving~

I know a lot of people who visit are from the US, so Happy Thanksgiving guys! Hope you eat a lot — that’s me wishing you the best in Asian-talk — and that the crazy cold or hot (depending on where you are) doesn’t get to you.

    Don’t have any Thanksgiving-y photo~

I won’t be posting daily because I found that posting so much online makes it impossible for me to work on the YAM Magazine website. I will still be tweeting for the YAM Mag Twitter account, the YAM Mag Facebook Group, or you know… you can follow my movie-watching on MUBI.

  • The 90s Were Back: New Kids on the Block + BackStreet Boys @ AMA2010

I know a bunch of people were watching the American Music Awards on Sunday – does anyone care about the AMA once we grow older? I actually complained there was no broadcast, when there actually was… I just didn’t know there was, because I guess I didn’t care.

Also I rarely have the TV on in anything other than CNN, NHK, or CCTV LOL

Anyway, the New Kids on the Block and the BackStreet Boys performed together – which they’ve done before, only the video leaked that time was just a bunch of women screaming. So this one is an actual broadcast performance bringing oh so many memories.

They sang a mash-up (Glee fan-mode on) of Hanging Tough with Everybody, which then turned into I Want it that Way, which turned into Step by Step with The Right Stuff, and they finished off with Larger than Life.

Please, I was a teenage girl once – I know every single track name from any pop song of any pop idol prior to 2002. I know the choreography to those music videos. LOL

But now? Now I work on YAM, and I’m all about WORLDWIDE stuff.
