garbo crawford susan lenox possessed

Both films featuring Clark Gable, released in 1931, and having a leading lady of rather humble beginnings that manages to rise to the top using her… er, skills. Of course, both Susan Lenox and Possessed have very different results. Though the cinematography in Susan Lenox is quite sublime at times — the whole introduction was marvelous with the shadows — I left rather disappointed by the end of the whole movie.

I’ve come to prefer Joan Crawford on screen~~~ remember, I got into her after I saw her on Grand Hotel, which came in the Garbo bundle. I was just left mesmerized. “Who is this woman, and where has she been all my movie-life???” So I do think Possessed edges Lenox by a pretty long thread. Despite its weak resolution, Possessed still holds itself pretty darn well. But even I must admit, I feel Garbo’s magnetism oozing from this still… even more so than I do with Crawford.

So… to me, Garbo on still. Crawford on screen.

While watching the latest version of Sparkle — besides checking out Carmen Ejogo (*legasp* English??) and fist-pumping for Tika Sumpter — the most emotional scene in the whole movie, which had me side-drying the “single” tear that kept on rolling down my left cheek, was when Whitney performed that song. And I didn’t even cry when her death was announced (more liked shocked). It’s just one of those powerful spiritual moments.

I’mma be loving this song, which has been included in Crowd’s latest album Guitar (有吉他的流行歌曲, complete title: Pop Songs with Guitar), strangely titled: One Bento Box (一個便當), even though the official name is simply Bian Dang x)

I’ve always loved that he uses — rather random — Spanish in his songs.

I don’t really follow baseball, but that time I got to watch the World Series by chance, I ended up being an Ichiro fan, so I love this commercial. xD And I love that Yu-chan’s faster than him when snatching meat.

Apparently they did a series, but you never know with these commercials any longer. They go PUFF all the time, even those that seem legit uploads.

I have been listening to …Baby One More Time and Oops!… I Did it Again — nearly non-stop — for the past two days. And I just really really REALLY miss you so much. I think it’s due to my cousin mentioning you, and then wanting to see you on The X Factor. But it’s not the same :(

3D printing is expensive — but cool — and apparently Japan is setting itself to test 3D printing photo booths so you can all make tiny models of yourselves!

While finally watching Joan Crawford’s Queen Bee, I got to watch the finest ‘OMG-I-Can’t-Believe-How-Much-It-Hurts’ on-screen slap EVER [1], even more epic than the whoop-ass that Veda got on Mildred Pierce. It was jaw-droppingly fascinating. xD

Then I found this compilation and I died laughing.

Makes me want to watch all her filmography again… but then I remind myself that I’ve still got Crawford movies to watch, so I can’t re-watch the films I own. I must complete my task at hand.

I haven’t seen you in so long, and yes… what is it about you?

It is what it is…

After some flame from their compilation of 135 Shots That Will Restore Your Faith in Cinema [1], Flavorwire is back with a new compilation~~~ this time around focusing on faces, their emotions and their beauty… to relative success. I don’t think I could fault them… I had enough with Wong Kar Wai (included multiple times), multiple Zhang Yimou shots (and a double appearance of Gong Li to boot!), there was Park Chan Wook, Guillermo del Toro, Leslie Cheung’s face.

It was a thing of beauty.

The only face I could possibly suggest would have been Greta Garbo’s last shot on Queen Christina, but I’m content.

I haven’t actively looked for Yu Aoi fan-made videos in a long time, but here we go~ I hope this one doesn’t get deleted, coz we’ve been suffering from that a lot lately. Regular Yu Aoi film footage applies, with nice additions of Tamatama, and Otouto… though, Raiou would have been nice to have.
