Archives For winners

The New York Film Critics also revealed their choices for this year, and Hurt Locker is already a lock for a Best Picture coming newer nominations, which would mean a serious female director for the win… finally.

Also, more snubs for Carey Mulligan, and mixes for Best Actor. But Supporting are locks.

Winners after the break.

Woah. Really? I really liked Hurt Locker, but I’m still surprised at how these awards are starting. We will have to wait for Golden Globe (this Tuesday) and SAG nominations (this Thursday) to find out.

More surprises? In the actor and actress category~~~

I think Julz is going to be VERY happy.

The National Board of Review named Up in the Air as the best film of the year. And like the Examiner mentions on its article… is this backlash against Mo’Nique’s refusal to promote the film and piss on her Oscar chances? Woah, that’s like a mafia. LOL

Clint Eastwood was named Best Director for Invictus, but like The Envelope says… Eastwood is a NBR fave. It really IS like a mafia~~~

Oh, Hugh… what happened to thee~~

But that’s another subject~~ It’s not like I despised Beyonce, and the Disney people on ‘my’ stage. I didn’t like them, that’s all. LOL’

It’s not like their Moulin Rouge number was totally unnecesary, instead they should have performed the Original Songs separately… and NOT have John Legend trying to butt in Jai Ho. On that subject, the drums… VERY COOL.

Natalie Portman… hot. + Ben Stiller doing Joaquin Phoenix??? Just OH!-Some~~~

Natalie Portman and Ben Stiller - Oscar 2009

What else is cool (though mildly surprising…) – JAPAN WINNING, not ONE BUT TWO!!! For Best Short Film Animated – which was great – but also getting FOREIGN FILM, when I so totally thought Waltz with Bashir would win. Okuribito (Departures) took back home Foreign Film~~ I totally FLIPPED.

Other cool moments… Best Actress. GOSH! Sophia Loren… Shirley MacLaine… Marion Cotillard (My Marion, OUR Marion), Halle Berry and Nicole Kidman. AND! Kate Winslet winning! Introduced by Marion! And Sophia Loren with her accent… introducing the fab+++ Meryl! I’d die for an intro of any of those two.

Actually, that was my favorite category of the night, haha. I’m glad for Best Actor… and Supporting Actress~~~ Penelope!! I have to update an old post on Oscar Studded Films~~~

And Tina Fey!! She was funny~~ as James Franco was.

I think I did pretty good on predictions (20/24) … I hope no one did better than me in the contest I entered hahaha.

Slumdog took 8, while Button took 3, Milk 2, Dark Knight 2 – the rest, if not mistaken took 1. xD

Winners and more photos below the break~~

Spirit Awards 2009!

February 21, 2009 — 3 Comments

1.30hrs to the broadcast, but you can head… over  the Film Independent’s Spirit Award website, to see the LIVE blue carpet.

Indie Spirits in my Room

My TV, the Picture in Picture (PIP), and my computer set to Indie Spirits this afternoon~~~

Well, I hope you’ve been watching- only 10 minutes to go… Melissa Leo was the cutest on the interview. The most fun there, actually… Ellen Page was there! Penelope Cruz… Richard Jenkins! James Franco, Mickey Rourke~~~ They also talked about Milk, and all about how they thought of rushing the opening of the film against Prop 8.

This is actually quite an interesting live event, a LOT of talk about films and projects… and minimum glamour and dress talk. I mean, how many times should we hear “who are you wearing?” – Refreshing~~~ other than the missed interviews, even though Film Independent SHOULD get primary spot on the carpet, so no one can skip them~~~ and other weird camera movements…

Kudos to them for the LIVE Event online~~ and hooray for NO RESTRICTIONS!!

I think you can head back to their site just after the broadcast to watch the ceremony, and stuff.

Grammy 2009 Winners

February 8, 2009 — 4 Comments

Did you watch the Grammy tonight? I mean, not like I had a choice to watch BAFTAs instead, but I did watch the Grammy on an off, while having dinner and chatting on MSN.

Woooooo! I actually rock~ lol, my wishlist of winners wasn’t too far off on the General Field categories. Quickie predictions weren’t that bad~~

My only pet-peeve miss was Coldplay winning Song of the Year, instead of Adele. I mean, DUH! Adele with Sugarland was pretty amazing, I must confess that I never really paid any attention to Sugarland (I saw them on some Billboard award, so I didn’t think anything of them) – but they were GOOD.

Coldplay also did a better performance than I expected, since they were doing a bit of a crappy job on live performances. Must be the mic, I tell ya. Radiohead also did pretty good~~

Miley with Taylor Swift? Like ZOMG! Miley totally made herself looked SO AWFUL next to Swift. Swift is 19, looks younger, writes and sings better. Miley is 16, looks 25 and sings like she smokes a packet a day. That’s all I have to say. And… Jonas Brothers? Aren’t two of them like in their early 20s? Shouldn’t they have changed their voices by now?

Adele won 2!!! As Sugarland did… Alisson Krauss with Robert Plant won 5 – including Record of the Year and Album of the Year.

All the LONG list of winners, here.

BAFTA Winners 2009

February 8, 2009 — Leave a comment

Paving the way to Oscar… BAFTA were just handed out~~ My private predictions weren’t too far off, scoring 15/20… considering this is my first BAFTA prediction, I think I did ok~~

Slumdog got 7 out of the 11 nods it had, including Best Film, Director, Adapted Screenplay and Score – Benjamin Button didn’t leave empty handed either (finally!, lol) – It took home 3 out of 11 nods, all in technical categories such as Best Visual Effects, Makeup and Production Design (which is Art Direction).

Kate Winslet pushes forward as the favorite in the  Best Actress for winning for The Reader, Heath… well, like, is that a surprise anymore? I’m sure a lot of America will tune into Oscar night to see Heath winning. And Penelope Cruz pushes forward for an Oscar win as Supporting Actress for her role in Vicky Cristina Barcelona – and well, Mickey Rourke~~~ MAN, that’s a tough one to call. Sean or Mickey?

Animation was a tough category, WALL-E ended up victorious against AWESOME animated films, Persepolis and Waltz with Bashir, which also lost Best Foreign Film against I’ve Loved You So Long (Il y a Longtemps que Je t’Aime)

Well, at the moment seeing the Red Carpet, but let’s see how well I do tonight~~ Live blogging, and winners as they are announced on this post. Check after the break…

Seriously, I don’t know why I watch Red Carpet anymore… I used to watch for Joan and Melissa Rivers, lol’ But oh well… award season is not award season without red carpets, I guess… xD

The cast of Slumdog is on! xD LOL and some Bollywood dancing~~~ xD

Golden Globes

Cast and crew of Slumdog Millionaire

Olivia Wilde looks hot… lol’ Red Carpet rolls eye comment… – can’t find any photos online… yet. LOL Hmm… well, I’m tired of waiting and searching for photos. I’m gonna do a half-ass job here, and not post any pictures. I don’t usually do that, but thought that it will be easier this year. Oh well…

Evan Rachel Wood just made an appearance talking about The Wrestler.

Weeeee~ photos! the girls from House M.D. ~~~

BIG win for Anne Hathaway!! ~~ and Meryl Streep. I mean, not such a big win for Meryl ‘coz she’s got a gazillion awards, but it was BIG for Anne… and her speech, I liked that it was mostly not about her. LOL’ And she was emotional… major points for an Oscar win. An Oscar win should bring her to tears… no? Oscar loves that, right? Emotional Best Actress…

I got 12/16, pretty amazing~~ Slumdog Millionaire won BIG too., including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing, Best Young Actor, and Best Composer (aka, Best Score). Not sure about the score win, but oh well. Also… BIG loss for Benjamin Button.

Other winners… Milk for Best Ensemble and Best Actor, The Dark Knight for Best Supporting Actor, Best Action Movie.  And Kate Winslet for The Reader, which I haven’t seen yet~~ For the winners, go here.
