RIP Miramax

January 29, 2010 — 3 Comments

Well, not a death particularly.

But it’s a sad day as Disney (who bought them for only $70M) has decided to shut down Miramax.

Yes, that same Disney that keeps feeding us with ABC’s Grey’s Anatomy, cancels Pushing Daisies… and gave us Miley Cyrus to rot the minds of our younger generation.

Miramax gave us The Piano, Reservoir Dogs, The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, The Talented Mr. Ripley, Clerks, Doubt, There Will Be Blood, Gone Baby Gone, Happy-Go-Lucky, Le Scaphandre et le Papillon, No Country for Old Men, Kinky Boots, Finding Neverland… just to name a few.

Good taste is dead. *sighs*

Just in time! I just finished re-watching both seasons of Pushing Daisies xD

Sci-Fi Wire sat down with Chi McBride (Emerson Cod) to talk about his new show, and they talked about how Bryan Fuller has shown him a couple ideas for the comics.

The story of the graphic novel makes liberal use of the show’s re-animation concept. “Well, it’s a whole thing about a whole bunch of corpses coming to life,” McBride revealed. “That’s all I know so far, but Bryan was kind enough to share the first few pages. It really looks good.”

“It seems a little darker, which is a lot of things that Bryan couldn’t do,” McBride said. “There’s one particular story that I hope he does called ‘The Head.’ I wished he could’ve done it during the series. It was awesome.”

So obviously, I’ll be reading. And are you reading Buffy Season 8?

Let’s see… just saw New York, I Love You.
as far as my expectations, I was disappointed… I did like two of the shorts. I was entertained by Brett Ratner’s segment (Olivia Thirlby and Anton Yelchin), but my favorite has to be Joshua Marston’s segment with Cloris Leachman.

Natalie Portman’s segment was okay… but her acting segment was kind of weak — plus, the bald cap she used (coz that was a bald cap, right?) bothered me a little because we know how her shaved head looks like.

Because I wanted to see something new by Shunji Iwai, I had high expectations and was let down. Nothing really wrong with it. Christina Ricci is okay, and I guess Orlando Bloom is okay… but did it have to be him?

I also got my screener for Precious, which I have seen already… but it’s nice to get to watch it on my DVD player. I’m getting ready to vote for Independet Spirit Awards ^^ Second time around!

Amazon hasn’t published my DVD Review of Linda Linda… why is that? It was a perfectly fine constructive critic that would have made Linda Linda a better release. If they don’t publish it this week, I will publish it here.

I’m almost done re-watching Pushing Daisies…
These are my last DVD buys:

  • Pushing Daisies Season 1
  • Pushing Daisies Season 2
  • The Animatrix
  • Linda Linda Linda
  • Kamikaze Girls

Best of 2009: Television

December 19, 2009 — 4 Comments

I am most certainly rubbish with this. Mainly because television requires a lot of hours of your time, which just doesn’t help if you need to watch everything. While votes on award shows are only required to watch 2 episodes, I try watching all the episodes on a season (of good shows). The bad ones never make it pass the 2nd week. LOL

So this year, I don’t think I watched too many shows. And I don’t watch reality any longer, maybe an episode a month of things like Iron Chef, or Project Runway, or So You Think You Can Dance, and/or Ramsay’s The F Word. I like Ramsay. He reminds me of my uncle. Hahahaha.

Sorry I didn’t Live blog the Emmys, but come on. It wasn’t that interesting, was it? Coolest moment? xD Dr. Horrible taking over the broadcast – hint, irony? – Whatever you say about streaming, still… downloading episodes/on demand beats watching things on tv. And as for resolution? There are big enough files that you can watch. Great HD quality. xD

As for winners?

I haven’t been able to read about all the winners, but some highlights!

Toni Collette FTW!!!! United States of Tara also won Best Main Title! Who else won?!? Kristin Chenoweth for Pushing Daisies!!! FTW II!!!! xD

The Beijing Olympics Opening also won (though I dunno if it won more than one) But it did win for Director for Variety, Music or Comedy Special – BUT! WTF!! Award given to Bucky Gunts? I think not. If the award should be given to someone it should be Zhang Yimou (or the Republic of China) because from what I’ve heard about the NBC Olympic Broadcast… it was… NOT pretty.

The Olympics was a gorgeous event, but the NBC broadcast was a chop-fest.

Grey Gardens also won Best Actress (Jessica Lange) in a Made-for-TV-Movie (and Best Supporting Actor), and Best Made-for-TV-Movie. Mad Men won Best Drama (again), 30 Rock won a bunch of awards – HBO won a bunch too. You can read all about… I mean, those “main” categories here and here.

Emmy Noms 2009

July 16, 2009 — Leave a comment

Always the ubber long nomination lists… – I’m not much of an Emmy knower, but it’s always good to keep track. Plus, Neil Patrick Harris is hosting x) – I’ll watch it if only for him, maybe he’ll throw in a Dr. Horrible joke. LOL

Apparently, Tina Fey’s got 22 nods!!! – though I haven’t counted yet…
there are really too many categories… xD

Drama Series
Big Love
Breaking Bad
Damages
Dexter (woohoo!!)
House M.D
Lost
Mad Men

Comedy Series
Entourage
Family Guy (buahaha)
Flight of the Conchords
How I Met your Mother
The Office
30 Rock
Weeds (weeee)

Made-for-TV Movie
Coco Chanel
Grey Gardens (only one seen O.o)
Into the Storm
Prayers for Bobby
Taking Chance

And a hell yeah! for Toni Collette for getting a Best Comedy Actress, alongside Weeds’ Mary-Louise Parker, 30 Rock’s Tina Fey (!!) xD – Sarah Silverman (for the Sarah Silverman Program), Samantha Who’s’ Christina Applegate, and The New Adventures of Old Christine’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Hell Yeahz! for Dexter’s Michael C. Hall (!!), Hugh Laurie for House – I’m sorry but I would love to be an ass such as him, if only I were that talented. LOL – And OMG! Jim Parsons!!!! I don’t watch The Big Bang Theory, but I love Sheldon!!! Ha! – and I see some conflict of interest here… but Neil Patrick Harris for Best Supporting Comedy! xD

And OMG! Supporting Comedy Actress! Kristin Chenoweth for Pushing Daisies (!!!!!), Amy Poehler, Kristin Wiig, Jane Krakowski, Weeds’ Elizabeth Perkins, and Vanessa Williams. Interesting category.

Pushing Daisies also got 4 other nods! (for makeup, hairstyle, costume and art direction) !!! (t=5)

Dexter got one extra for Jimmy Smith as guest actor. (t=3)

Weeds got 3 other nods! (for casting, cinematography, and sound mixing) (t=6)

United States of Tara got 3 other nods! (for casting, main title design and main title theme) (t=4)

And Stewie must be over the moon with Family Guy getting a Best Comedy – talk about a comeback after being cancelled.

Best of 2008!

December 17, 2008 — 3 Comments

So… it’s only 2 weeks short of the new year, and yet another list of what was good this year~~ Though, I’m considering of not doing 2008 stuff, and just focus on things I found in 2008 instead.

Good Taste is DEAD.

… or at least scarce.

First, with Maca’s announcement that Twilight earned a little over $70M this past weekend… which isn’t really surprising considering the amount of promotion they did trying to shove it down my throat. Ugh.

If I want smut, I’ll head over to read smutty fanfiction on HP characters, thankyouverymuch.

If I want a broody dark vampire to save my life, I’ll love Angel forever and always. If I wanna rough it up with a bleached rockish vamp with a ‘tude, I’ll pick Spike. If I wanna watch/read an interesting vampire story, I’ll watch/read Let the Right One In (Låt den Rätte Komma in)… and please, NO REMAKES.

THEN! It gets WORSE. UGH! I just read that Pushing Daisies is over. EF it ABC – what the heck, they keep on stretching pretty stupid uninteresting Grey’s Anatomy’s storylines… go wacky with Lost, which I never enjoyed, and you kill Pushing Daisies. WTF! Shut your Pie Hole ABC… >,<x

Amy is Watching~~

October 2, 2008 — 1 Comment

… what am I watching this TV fall season? It’s TV talk!! I went through 2 seasons of Dexter last month in a whim… and I just recently finished watching season 4 of Weeds, which I wasn’t so happy with, even though I heart Mary-Louise Parker. But what is moi watching now?

Well since TV…. here isnt’t er… very prompt with seasons – roughly waiting an average of 3 months for popular shows, and more… even a whole year – I’ve got to find other ways to watch, because I don’t like waiting.
