Archives For nominations

Wow, amazing AMAZING stuff by Michel Gagné (some animation in Ratatouille and ALl Dogs Go to Heaven) in Sensology – shortlisted in the list of 10 animated shorts for the Oscar. It needs to be between the nominees.

And if it wins? Woah, does that mean the gap between animation and motion graphics will be even more blurred? Up until now, I haven’t seen any “motion graphic” piece win. They nominated I Met the Walrus, but it lost. I think that’s the closest nominee I’ve seen that looks more like a motion graphic piece, than an animated short.

Always amazing animation stuff coming from Canada, and no – I’m not being biased ;P

Never have followed the Asian Pacific nominations… mainly because it’s hard to, you know~~~ watch films from that part of the world for me. However, distribution is getting better – dvds are being launched so much faster, and many of them come with subtitles in English (when needed), and there’s a lot more people willing to fansub when needed.

And YAY! Aftershocks has landed 6 nominations – including Best Film, Best Directing, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay PLUS! Best Actor and Best Actress. Now, I’m trying not to be biased, I don’t think actor Chen Daoming was THAT good in Aftershocks, but actress Xu Fan completely deserves it.

The other big nominee of the night is South Korea’s Poetry (Shi) – crap! I’m really that good at film recommendations for distributors, someone hire me ASAP! – which received 4 nominations for Best Film, Best Directing, Best Screenplay and Best Actress. While Taiwan’s Monga – see, I’m good – was nominated for 3 awards for Best Film, Best Directing and Best Cinematography.

The APSA(wards) will be handed out December 2nd on a live webcast at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards site.

All nominations below the break~

It’s time to work on the 2010 edition of the Experiment Awards – working title… anyone have another suggestion? Was thinking of The YAMmy Awards or The YAMmers xD Anyway, for those of you who didn’t vote last year or weren’t reading the site last year, The Experiment Awards is OUR awards. We watch the films, and nominate them.

The only thing you need to do? Watch over 48 films dated 2010 on IMDb. We still haven’t figure out what to do with films late in the year… well, tough luck.

My count? I’m 41 films dated 2010 on IMDb, so I’m almost there~

Anyone’s invited to participate, the detailed rules are here (includes nomination dates and deadlines).

And I made banners of my fave films watched until now!

Perhaps the UK Music Video Awards is doing something better than the VMA. Why? Well, they nominated OK Go’s This too Shall Pass. That, I believe, is an automatic win in nominations~

Highlighted nominees?

Florence and the Machine, Plan B, Massive Attack, MIA — though I’m not exactly sure Born Free is a Dance Video exactly — and surprise! SOUR’s Hibi no Neiro, which won my Breakthrough last year. xD

Check all the nominations over at Promonews.tv

though I’m sure there’s better Dance videos in S.Korea, non?

What happened to MTV Breakthrough Videos?

The VMA nominations have been announced with Lady Gaga taking the lead with a record 13 nods (10 for Bad Romance, 3 for Telephone featuring Beyonce. Plus, 5 for Video Phone by Beyonce featuring Lady Gaga). Following that, Eminem with 8 nominations for I’m Not Afraid.

Gaga also makes a record by getting Video of the Year for Bad Romance, and Telephone. Plus, they were also nominated for Best Choreography alongside Video Phone – To make that clear, that’s 3 Lady Gaga related videos in the Choreography category. Like I said, Lady Gaga is pretty much the only thing worth keeping an eye out now.

Pink, or should I say Dave Meyers [I should really get to work on my Meyers Music Video Director post] who directed the video for Funhouse, was nominated for 2 VMAs including Best Directing and Best Editing. But you should really check out how fun Please Don’t Leave Me is. Wickedly twisted.

But here we are because of the Breakthrough category, because we all know that the Breakthrough category is the only category that is or could be potentially interesting. And here was the surprise… the most likely to win this year would be the one that won Video of the Year 2009 at the UK Music Video Awards. How outdated is that for the VMA?

Emmy Nominations 2010

July 8, 2010 — 2 Comments

Emmys are always an afterthought here, mainly because we don’t have much time to keep up with all series, so we’re kind of at a loss when it comes to television awards. But alas, that doesn’t stop new nominations coming in~~~

The miniseries The Pacific leads nominations with 24, but if we’re talking about series… Well, Glee is leading that one list with 19 nominations – 2 nominations ahead of Mad Men (17), 4 ahead of 30 Rock (15), and 5 ahead of Modern Family (14). For the summary list check this PDF out from Emmys.tv

Other series nominated… Lost (12), The Good Wife (9), Nurse Jackie (8), Dexter (7) and House M.D (3) ~

Among the many nominations~

It used to be really difficult to watch shorts before the Academy Awards gave its shorts prize, but now it seems many filmmakers have decided to show their work online… and well, people have taken into uploading more shorts xD Obviously, except for the BBC and Wallace and Gromit in ‘A Matter of Loaf and Death’

Oscar 2010 Nominations

February 2, 2010 — 5 Comments

Wow color me surprise. This is a lot of history in the making…

First, it’s a battle against Avatar vs. The Hurt Locker with each having 9 nominations. Followed by Inglourious Basterds with 8, Precious and Up in the Air with 6, Up with 5, and District 9, Nine, and Star Trek with 4.

Also, Peru just made Oscar History with its first ever nomination for Foreign Film.

I just got a few surprises like I asked, as well as really good guesses… missing some films, but also nice surprises like District 9 getting 4 nods. LOL

Oscar 2010 Predictions

February 1, 2010 — 4 Comments

Tomorrow it’s nomination days!

My country is buzzing with anticipation of a possible Best Foreign Film nod for The Milk of Sorrow.

Anyway, I did Oscar predictions last year and I got about 85% of nominations right considering all of the categories, and nearly a perfect score in major categories of acting, directing and film. However, I don’t think I will be getting a score as good as last time.
