Archives For Photographs

Okay, I’m slightly impressed.

While posting the trailer of The Puppet Syndrome, I found it a little bit difficult to distinguish between gorwn-up Liza (Khamatova) and the actress that was playing her younger self. Khamatova’s face is peculiar — to me, it’s like trying to cast a young version of Bjork — but Young Liza, played by Alina Gvasaliya (born 1992) comes close.

For the latest volume of MEKURU Magazine [Facebook][Official Website], they are holding a special on Yu Aoi who will be turning 30! I’m not sure what’s gonna be in there (Japanese being rusty and all), but there’s gonna be an interview and (maybe?) photos by Kawashima Kotori (川島小鳥) [Portfolio], who apparently is an Ihei Kimura (木村伊兵) awarded photographer for his book Star (明星) [Amazon JP].

It’s titled Aoi Yu, Saisho de Saigo ni Ren’ai o Kataru (蒼井優、最初で最後に恋愛を語る) — you’ll have to forgive my des and nis translations.

They’re totally selling it like a direct sequel to Travel Sand. xD

There will also be a poem by Shuntaro Kanikawa (谷川俊太郎) titled Aoi Yu (あおいゆう). Among other stuff I can’t make out, it’ll include 128 pages and will be listed at Y907 Yen. It’s available on Amazon JP and HMV JP.

I’m trying to wrap my head on the fact that Mario Testino photographed these Chinese perfections- (From Left to Right) Zhao Wei, Liu Wen, Carina Lau, Fan Bingbing, and Tang Wei. Li Bingbing, Du Juan, Zhang Ziyi, Chris Lee (Li Yuchun), and Zhou Xun.

Celebrating 10 years of Vogue in Mainland China.

Note, though, that Carina Lau (sitting in gold on the far left) is turning 50 this year. I’m just saying. She’s at least 8 years ahead of Li Bingbing (sitting in gold in between Tang Wei and Zhang Ziyi) and 10 years ahead of Zhou Xun and Zhao Wei. And Carina is sitting below model Liu Wen, who is 27. I’m just saying.

Carina Lau deserves our respect.

Are you following Doona Bae on Instagram? I don’t have an account, but of course I made my way through the RSS feed. Also, did you watch Sense8 [español tambien] already? Did you fall in love with Doona all over again? Because I did.

*snort* I did confuse Shruti thinking it was lil’ sister Akshara for a moment there. They don’t look alike, though, just a pure brain fart. Anyway, big sis Haasan stopped by this year’s GQ Best Dressed party wearing… not a femme suit! LOL It’s not as badass as, let’s say, Sammi Cheng in Cannes… but it calls your attention in between all the dresses. Coat needs a little tailoring, a sharper collar, and a tighter tie knot.

It’s really lil sis Akshara who can rock the cool look. I was over the moon with her hair in Shamitabh. And I’m not the only one. Whoever pull off the look in the film, brilliant. She does look a lot like Kamal Haasan, though. She’s got the perennial sad look in her eyes, and she’s got funky ears! She had sass, though. It can be promising.

Well, this week has been an active Tabu week~ first, news that Rekha had backed out of Abhishek Kapoor’s Great Expectations adaptation, Fitoor, and having Tabu land on the gig. Then the hindi Drishyam team teased a shot of Tabu in cop get-up in prep for the release of the trailer (my gosh, the movie promotion machine these days). I think they also announced Manoj Bajpayee’s and Tabu’s upcoming film Missing [1], while putting in on the table that Tabu will be playing Katrina Kaif’s sister in Fitoor and not a crazy aunt. Ha, they look nothing alike. Reminds me of Chinese movie-casting.

Phew. I think I covered my basis.

Tabu is going to eat people alive on that set. I know Cuaron’s version is not very popular, but I love it.

Oh, man~ my Japanese has gotten so bad. Or at least, my non-food related Japanese. I ran into these interviews Yu-chan did to promote the release of her last interview-PB Yu Diary book, which includes the nugget that she almost quit acting at age 23. But please, feel free to guide me through all these chunks of text.

The other interview includes info on the process of making the book… as well as these three photos of her.

Ran into more shots of this shoot [1][2].

I’ll champion anything Vidya does. This goes hand in hand with her Mother India cover!

Yasuhiro Yoshiura’s Time of Eve is one of my favorite animations of the decade so far, though I do prefer the series, I think. I don’t know how I missed the Kickstarter, though I’ve grown tired of them and it brings the Time of Eve release at the same price of the Japanese release. Sighs. Japanese products.

But look at this beauty~

The ones offered through Amazon, do not offer shipping to my location :( but The Time of Eve Shop does… at a kinda expensive price. Nearly $20 USD in shipping!

So for prep of a movie review, I finally watched 200 Pounds of Beauty and I really was struck by how beautiful Kim Ah-Joong’s face was. I don’t know if it was the way the movie was shot, but this photo of her captured that same feeling I got.
