Identity and DNA

July 1, 2016 — 4 Comments

We’re living in a world obsessed with identity, origins and DNA. I’m starting to believe this is a conspiration to get us all to test our DNAs -paying and very much willingly- to see where we ‘really come from.’ No, like- really, where YOU REALLY come from. First it was this overly dramatic flights company, Momondo ad. Followed by this DNA test Buzzfeed video, which got me really really wondering.

Then this Joanna Rants Flama video about hyphen identities~~~ with a shout out to Asian-Peruvian (Protestant)! xD Which in the end sent my head spinning mainly because of my dad’s side. Peruvian isn’t really a racial identity, though some would differ. I don’t know much about my dad’s side of the family, but I know more than my mom’s side~~~ one thing is certain, I’m positively certain my mom is 99,9% East Asian xD which makes me, at least, half East Asian (if not half full Chinese, despite having two Chinese last names~)

I know my grandpa on my dad’s side was mixed Chinese and I know my grandma on his side was mixed Spanish-Afro-Peruvian, but not certain on percentages. I’ll have to ask my aunt around now. But that would make my dad, at least, half Spanish creole (if not more) Afro-Chinese Peruvian xD and that would make me…… Chinese Spanish creole Afro-Peruvian? xD A Queer Catholic-by-culture Franciscan-by-school Agnostic Chinese Spanish Creole Afro-Peruvian. And that doesn’t even paint the political colors. xD

But interesting.

I’m totally into the idea of finding out what’s in me, but at the same time, I’ve been watching too much Orphan Black. lol

Chulpan Khamatova’s FB updated a couple of days ago with a link sharing this supercut of her most updated filmography; meaning it includes Under Electric Clouds, as well as The Puppet Syndrome. There’s just a couple of clips I’m not so sure of, they could be from her series Bashnya (Башня) [Wikipedia], which was a little bit difficult to watch for lack of subs xD

Recognized clips (without repeats) are as follow~

  • Sobytie [1]
  • The Puppet Syndrome
  • Paper Soldier
  • Midsummer Madness (in that red whatever that is uniform xD)
  • Katya (short film)
  • Sleeping Songs
  • Dostoevsky (series)
  • The Rainbowmaker
  • Under the Electric Clouds
  • America
  • There’s a desaturated kissing clip between two Puppet Syndrome clips, that I think looks like America. But I’m not 100% on that.
  • The clip of Chulpan with a beard is from the Ivan the Terrible series.
  • The clip of Chulpan revealing her mangled face is from Bashnya
  • Unrecognized red screencap 001
  • Unrecognized sitting screencap 002
  • The House of the Sun

The unrecognized scenes could very well be from Sleeping Songs, I honestly don’t remember a thing about that movie. lol I’ll leave you with the screencaps, in case anyone wonders and/or knows. The second cap could be, judging from the hairstyle and the eyebrows, but I’m drawing a blank with 001. xD

Some image confirmation source at kino-teatr.ru + ruskino.ru

I forgot to share this! Gobelins is always great for student animation, it seems the shorts they’re posting on YouTube will be feature at the current Annecy Film Fest~ including this fantastic short by Fabien Corre, Sixtine Dano, Thibault Leclercq, Katie Sung Lee, Valentin Lucas, and Andrei Sitari.

It’s gorgeously animated when a bar fights strikes involving a bunch of artists in 1910, Montmartre.

Yo~ that’s one heck of a great teaser for an upcoming album. Looks and sounds epic.

The best? Kent gets us, songs are available for stream on YouTube. Thank you so much~

Looks like the album is available everywhere on iTunes but the US xD

My only ever memory of Enchanted was that when it finally opened in Lima, it was only presented in its Latino dub version and I was pissed. I didn’t watch it at the cinema because I refused to watch Amy Adams dubbed, and my doubts were confirmed when I tested the Latino audio on the DVD. xD

I love the movie so much- the throwback, the modern spin on the princess story, the music and everything that I’ve seen it a number of times on my own DVD, I sometimes re-watch it when I catch it on TV, and I may or may have not watched the Japanese dub on the plane from Japan back home. However, my favorite scene in the whole movie definitely is the “you make me so angry” bit because it pushes the movie out of the Disney comfort zone without ever leaving it, and it’s perfect. It changes Giselle from Disney princess to actual modern-day woman within the Disney universe constrains.

All the feels. In here and in the So Close number. And Giselle saves Robert. Most awesome princess movie.

The first thing to notice- OMO, I’ve been saying Pretz wrong my WHOLE life. How does Pretz (which obviously derives from Pretzel) end up being “pritz”? HOW!?

Second thing to notice… Solar, I’m never ever sharing snacks with you xD You bunch of adorable dorks.

Just got the chance to watch Hany Abu-Assad’s The Idol and have gotten properly acquainted with Arab Idol winner Mohammed Assaf— I was impressed. He’s got a great voice, and he’s quite good looking! He’s also got the grace of God on his side, coz’ gosh~ really.

Full album is available on iTunes.

L’Oreal Paris has a bunch of brand ambassadors by region, and they all get invited to Cannes; among them, there’s people like Eva Longoria, Aishwarya and Sonam Kapoor, who all end up walking the festival’s red carpet events, just like last year. This time around, they got them all for this commercial that also credits J.Lo and Blake Lively, even though I don’t really spot them in it.

Those who do make it and aren’t listed, however, include Aishwarya, Sonam Kapoor, and the Bingbings– Fan Bingbing and Li Bingbing. That’s on top of Jane Fonda, and everyone’s faves Julianne Moore and Naomi Watts, who all come together to gather round John Legend.

The idea of them coming together around Legend gave me vibes of that Lux Soap Commercial that Shahrukh Khan did like a decade ago, which featured Hema Malini, Juhi Chawla, Kareena Kapoor, and Sridevi… but then I watched it again, and that one was grosser. xD La Vie en Rose, at least, is a nice soft tune to give you the feeling of floating in the clouds xD

— EDIT 12Aug’16 —

Here’s the L’Oreal India upload.

Australian upload.

I know it’s horrible to say this, but I’ve been wasting a lot of time watching (and re-watching) Mamamoo clips on YouTube — thank you, Mamamoo Trans, Mamamoo Comedy and Rara Dish. You’ve reduced my productivity hours. You guys are awesome and hilarious.

I’ve just re-watched this re-upload of MMMTV from 2014 near Xmas. It’s glorious, I could watch Mamamoo rehearse all those two hours without editing.

My dream is that Marca Peru, who has -for a number of failed years- tried to lure Asian tourist into the marvelous sights of our country, will get in touch with Mamamoo, pay them their sponsor fees on top of 3 months to tour the WHOLE country. Eat (weird things, among others)… because turns out Mamamoo girls love choncholi~ though they say they love “intestine soup” (it sounds to me like ‘desang tang’ but I couldn’t find the actual name of the dish) and we eat intestines more like their Gopchang Gui (곱창구이) counterpart.

Imagine three months of Mamamoo travel adventures sailing the Amazon river, sand-boarding, visiting the sea lions of Paracas, visiting Machu Picchu; eating anticuchos, choncholi, picarones, all our varieties of ceviche (conchas negras ‘black conch,’ paiche), Arequipa soups, Juanes, Tacacho with cecina, high on sugar of perfect manjar blanco, suspiro a la limeña, and enchant them with a their daily dose of Queso Helado (‘frozen cheese’ that is not literally frozen cheese, but just milk and cinnamon ice cream). Just feed Mamamoo and let them be hyperactive, record it and present it as a 15-episode variety program of cross-cultural integration between Marca Peru and the Visit Korea program.

End the thing with a small unplugged concert. Ta-da! Broadcast tourism program~

Or we can just get Donnie Yen.

Richa Chadha is currently promoting Sarabjit and Cabaret, so she sat down with Anupama Chopra for a lengthy chat. Sit-downs with Anupama usually don’t last this long, but Chadha is great in it– she’s open, witty and entertaining, and manages to make you wish the best for her. I know she’ll probably hate on this, but she reminded me of Tabu on this, for reasons unknown.Just gave me those vibes.

Happy watching!
